Senior Platform Engineer, Data Platforms

About the role

Rivian is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to own and evolve its Data Platform built on Databricks and AWS. You will treat the platform as a product, delivering a secure, automated, and observable environment for data engineers, analysts, and scientists to work efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, tune, and evolve the Databricks Lakehouse environment, including workspaces, compute policies, Unity Catalog, Lakeflow, and Databricks Asset Bundles.
• Design and manage AWS and Databricks infrastructure as code using Terraform, ensuring reproducibility and version control.
• Own platform security and governance, handling IAM roles, least‑privilege access, SSO/SCIM, secrets management, network isolation, encryption, and audit logging.
• Build and maintain observability, monitoring, alerting, and dashboards for pipeline health, job SLAs, cluster utilization, query performance, and cost.
• Create CI/CD pipelines and deployment patterns that enable rapid, reliable delivery of platform changes.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience with data platforms, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure.
• Strong platform mindset focused on scalability, security, automation, and self‑service.
• Ability to work with advanced AI tools to accelerate architecture design and automation.
