Financial Accountant

About the role

MDPI is seeking a Financial Accountant to join its Belgrade office. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month‑end closing, and ensuring compliance with Serbian accounting and tax regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Support and review bookkeeping activities in line with Serbian accounting standards and internal policies.
• Verify accounting reports before management approval and upload them to the internal finance system.
• Coordinate with the external accounting provider for monthly, quarterly and annual closings.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and investigate differences.
• Check VAT treatment of transactions and assist with VAT filings and statutory reporting.
• Assist in preparing annual financial statements and corporate income‑tax returns.
• Liaise with auditors during internal and external audits, verify missing invoices and payroll data.
• Prepare monthly cost files, weekly cost reports, forecasts and intercompany invoices.
• Set up internal accounting processes, including invoice processing, VAT reporting and general‑ledger reconciliations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics or equivalent.
• 3‑5 years of experience in financial accounting, preferably in an international environment.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Knowledge of Serbian accounting standards; IFRS knowledge is a plus.
• Familiarity with VAT and corporate income‑tax regulations.
• Experience working with external accounting providers.
• Attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies in financial data.
