Java Engineer – Automation & Efficiency

About the role

Join Paysend’s Automation and Efficiency team to design and build high‑performance backend services that process millions of financial transactions daily. You will work on distributed micro‑service systems, data‑intensive workflows and internal tooling that support global payment operations at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Java‑based backend services and internal tools for transaction processing and analysis.
• Own and optimise PostgreSQL data models, queries and performance across multiple services.
• Build systems that automate operational and transaction‑monitoring workflows at scale.
• Work within a distributed micro‑services ecosystem, handling service communication and evolving integrations.
• Contribute to a new fraud‑monitoring platform using modern technology stack.
• Investigate production issues, identify bottlenecks and implement long‑term improvements.
• Collaborate with QA and Analytics teams to ensure reliability, scalability and observability.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Java and Spring.
• Strong hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL in production.
• Experience building distributed systems and micro‑services.
• Familiarity with major cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).
• Ability to work independently on complex technical problems.
• Strong ownership from implementation through deployment and support.
