Junior Backend Developer

About the role

We're looking for a Junior Backend Developer! As a Junior Backend Developer, you will build and maintain the services behind our gaming platform. You will join a new team taking ownership of an established system, learning inherited code and improving limited documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable backend services in Java, focused on performance and reliability.
• Develop and support REST APIs and microservices for high‑traffic gaming operations.
• Work with PostgreSQL and SQL Server, writing and tuning queries for production workloads.
• Implement proper error handling, logging, and monitoring across distributed systems.
• Collaborate with frontend and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment.
• Troubleshoot and debug backend services, supporting observability with tools such as Prometheus.
• Help build and improve CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Take part in code reviews and document systems for knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of hands‑on backend development, primarily in Java.
• Solid understanding of microservices, REST APIs, and distributed systems.
• Experience building and maintaining production‑grade backend services.
• Comfortable with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and efficient SQL.
• Understanding of asynchronous processing and event‑driven patterns.
• Ability to work with inherited code and limited documentation.
• Ownership mentality and pragmatic problem‑solving approach.
• Clear communicator who works well with the wider team.
• Eager to learn from the system architect and grow architectural judgement.
• Fluent in English; Serbian is a plus.
