Principal IAM Engineer – Directory Services

About the role

Syneos Health is seeking a Principal IAM Engineer to lead the design, implementation and modernization of its directory services and hybrid identity infrastructure. The role combines hands‑on engineering, security hardening, automation and mentorship across a global life‑sciences organization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering, administration and security of Active Directory, Entra ID, Azure AD and LDAP directories, including hybrid identity design.
• Design and enforce directory security controls such as AD hardening, Group Policy management, CIS benchmark compliance and privileged access safeguards.
• Develop and maintain IAM automation, integrations and tooling using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, SQL, KQL, REST APIs and Azure DevOps.
• Build reporting and auditing solutions for access reviews, compliance monitoring and executive reporting with Power BI.
• Manage non‑human identities (service accounts, application identities, certificates, secrets) and support machine‑to‑machine authentication.
• Provide senior technical leadership, act as escalation point and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in IAM, directory services or security engineering, including enterprise identity platform administration.
• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, create documentation and communicate with both technical and business stakeholders.

• Integration experience with Saviynt IGA, ServiceNow, Workday, Microsoft 365.
• Understanding of Zero Trust, least‑privilege and identity governance concepts.
