Senior Backend Developer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join our engineering team and build scalable, high‑performance production systems. The role focuses on backend development, system architecture, performance optimisation and distributed systems, offering ownership of critical components and mentorship opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using PHP and Laravel.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Design and optimise MySQL databases, queries, indexes and data models.
• Develop asynchronous and event‑driven systems using Apache Kafka.
• Work with AWS infrastructure including EC2, RDS, S3, CloudWatch and Lambda.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production systems using Graylog and other observability tools.
• Identify and resolve performance, scalability and reliability issues.
• Participate in system architecture and technical design decisions.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor junior/mid‑level developers.
• Collaborate with Product, Frontend, QA and DevOps teams.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend/software development experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience with PHP and Laravel.
• Deep knowledge of MySQL, including query optimisation and database design.
• Practical experience with Kafka or similar streaming systems.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, system architecture, scalability and performance optimisation.
