Senior / Lead Research Scientist

About the role

Inworld is a research lab building the world’s top‑ranked realtime voice models that power consumer‑facing AI applications across health, fitness, learning, therapy, companions, and more. As a Senior / Lead Research Scientist you will drive the creation of next‑generation foundation models, from architecture design to production‑ready APIs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, train, and scale new foundation model architectures, including multimodal and agent‑centric models.
• Develop reinforcement‑learning pipelines, reward‑modeling strategies, and test‑time compute optimizations.
• Build and maintain rigorous evaluation frameworks: benchmarks, eval loops, quality measurement, LLM‑as‑judge, and failure analysis.
• Lead full‑cycle research projects: formulate questions, run experiments, write papers, and ship results into production.
• Publish research at top conferences (ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS, EMNLP, ACL, AAAI) and contribute to open‑source AI tools.

Required profile

• PhD in Machine Learning, NLP, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience with demonstrable impact.
• Track record of high‑impact research, preferably with publications at premier AI conferences.
• Experience delivering end‑to‑end research outcomes that transition from prototype to product.
• Self‑starter who thrives in ambiguous environments and can navigate from problem definition to solution without a predefined roadmap.
