Software Engineer – Security (Member of Technical Staff)

About the role

Perplexity is looking for a hands‑on Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve the tools and automation that power its security operations. The role focuses on creating AI‑driven agents, detection pipelines, and vulnerability management systems to strengthen the security posture of the company’s products and infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software that enriches alerts, automates triage workflows, and supports investigation tooling.
• Build and improve internal AI agents and security bots for monitoring, reporting, and other operational tasks.
• Create systems that manage bug bounty intake, triage, prioritization, and remediation tracking.
• Partner with product and engineering teams to threat‑model new features, propose mitigations, and embed security guardrails.
• Contribute secure‑by‑default libraries, services, and patterns for other teams.
• Integrate security signals from cloud, endpoints, SaaS, and applications into unified detection pipelines.
• Automate incident‑response steps to reduce manual effort in containment and remediation.
• Collaborate with security and software engineers to review designs, code, and continuously improve security tooling.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on security tools, platforms, or automation.
• Proven ability to own projects end‑to‑end and deliver high‑impact improvements.
• Experience working closely with cross‑functional teams and conducting threat modeling or secure design reviews.
• Familiarity with bug bounty or vulnerability management programs is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, Go, or TypeScript.
• Experience building production services, CLIs, or internal tools.
• Integration with security‑relevant systems such as SIEMs, EDR, cloud APIs, or identity platforms.
• Practical knowledge of threat modeling and secure design principles.
• Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and modern SaaS environments.
• Exposure to AI‑powered agents or automation for security operations.
