Test Laboratory Technician / Equipment Test Technician

About the role

The Test Laboratory Technician provides practical support to the head of the testing function, preparing, conducting and documenting tests of industrial automation equipment. The role is based in a laboratory environment and involves handling test samples, operating measurement devices and ensuring test procedures are followed accurately.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare product samples, verify equipment completeness and connect devices according to diagrams.
• Set up cables, adapters, test benches and measurement circuits; place equipment in climatic chambers and test installations.
• Execute standard tests following approved programs, monitor parameters and record intermediate measurements.
• Stop testing on detection of faults or deviations and report findings to the test manager.
• Perform functional testing of sensors, I/O modules, converters, gateways, power supplies and other automation components.
• Repeat tests after product modifications and compare results with specifications.
• Operate multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, laboratory power supplies, hipot testers and EMC test equipment.
• Maintain test area, log equipment usage, monitor calibration due dates and support simple repairs.
• Document test results, create logs, protocols, photographs of defects and compile archives.
• Handle non‑conformities, label faulty samples, assist in retesting and track corrective actions.

Required profile

• Secondary vocational or higher technical education in a relevant field.
• Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment and follow occupational safety regulations.
• Attention to detail and capability to record accurate test data.

Required skills

• Use of multimeters and oscilloscopes.
• Operation of spectrum analyzers and laboratory power supplies.
• Experience with hipot testers and EMC testing equipment.
• Handling of climatic chambers and vibration/mechanical test installations.
• Knowledge of measurement circuits and test bench setup.
• Ability to create simple algorithms for automated checks.
• Proficiency in documenting test results and maintaining equipment logs.
