Database CloudOps Engineer – PostgreSQL

About the role

As Salmon's engineering team expands, you will ensure our high‑load PostgreSQL infrastructure remains reliable, secure, and ready to scale with rapid business growth. You will own a PostgreSQL environment processing roughly 20,000 transactions per minute, where reliability and fast incident response are essential.

Key responsibilities

• Own and operate a high‑load PostgreSQL environment (≈20k tpm) on AWS (RDS, Aurora) managed via Terraform.
• Partner with development teams on database architecture, schema design, query optimization, and new database‑related projects.
• Perform zero‑downtime database migrations and proactively identify performance bottlenecks.
• Configure, maintain, and tune PostgreSQL infrastructure in AWS, driving architecture optimization and proposing improvements.
• Lead incident and performance management for databases, handling tickets and flagging systemic issues.

Required profile

• 3–5+ years of professional experience in software or data engineering.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including query optimization, indexing, replication, and performance troubleshooting.
• Experience with large‑scale data systems, ETL pipelines, or distributed backend architectures.
• Solid understanding of SQL performance tuning, schema design, and transaction management.
• Hands‑on experience with Linux, monitoring tools, automation scripting, and AWS services (Aurora, RDS, Redshift, Kafka, Debezium).
• Basic familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Docker, and Kubernetes.
