Embedded Software Manager – Autonomy

About the role

Rivian is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Manager to lead the autonomy team. You will guide engineers developing low‑level drivers, RTOS/Linux applications, and security features for safety‑critical automotive systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of embedded engineers, fostering collaboration and innovation.
• Oversee design, development, and integration of embedded software, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Define and execute test automation strategies using Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) environments.
• Partner with program management and hardware groups to set requirements, schedules, and resource plans.
• Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and drive performance optimization.
• Resolve complex hardware‑software integration challenges and guide system optimization.
• Shape product roadmaps by staying ahead of autonomy and automotive embedded technology trends.
• Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to deliver on schedule and within cost targets.

Required profile

• 5+ years managing engineering teams delivering production embedded systems internationally.
• 10+ years as a software engineer in safety‑critical, security‑focused, or automotive environments.
• Proven ability to work in a fast‑growing, dynamic engineering organization.
• Strong communication skills and a proactive, hands‑on leadership style.

Required skills

• C, C++, Python programming for embedded systems.
• Linux embedded application development.
• Board Support Packages (BSP), device drivers, RTOS and middleware architectures.
• Embedded security mechanisms such as Secure Boot, HSM, hardware‑root‑of‑trust, and cryptography.
• Automotive communication protocols: CAN, Ethernet, PCIe.
• Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) test environments and test automation.
