Game Design Director – World of Warships

About the role

Wargaming seeks an experienced Game Design Director to lead the creative vision for World of Warships, a globally popular free‑to‑play naval combat title. Reporting to the WoWS Franchise Director, you will shape long‑term gameplay direction and ensure a cohesive player experience across product development and publishing.

Key responsibilities

• Define and champion the creative vision and experience pillars for World of Warships.
• Translate product strategy into clear gameplay priorities, quality standards, and design deliverables.
• Provide direction, feedback, and guidance to game designers, aligning their work with the overall vision.
• Collaborate with Product Development and Publishing to align creative decisions with roadmap, audience strategy, and business goals.
• Review and validate major gameplay features, systems, and content.
• Balance creative ambition with technical scope, timelines, player needs, and production realities.
• Leverage player feedback, research, market insights, and product data to inform design decisions.
• Represent the creative and game‑design vision to senior leadership, internal stakeholders, and external partners.
• Foster a collaborative culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and constructive feedback.

Required profile

• Significant experience in senior game‑design leadership roles such as Creative Director, Game Director, or Design Director.
• Proven track record of shipping at least one AAA or comparable PC/console title in a leadership capacity.
• Strong experience leading and developing game‑design teams.
• Demonstrated ability to define and deliver a cohesive creative and gameplay vision for large‑scale live‑service games.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Fluent English with strong written and verbal abilities.
