Search Crawler Analyst – Member of Technical Staff

About the role
Perplexity is looking for a Member of Technical Staff to work on its large‑scale web crawling and search pipeline. You will combine data analysis with engineering to design metrics, build pipelines, and improve the quality of search and answer systems.
Key responsibilities
- Find and diagnose quality issues in the crawling pipeline.
- Train small models to optimise specific pipeline stages such as parsing quality.
- Build datasets for model training, including LLM‑as‑a‑judge labeling pipelines.
- Improve page selection algorithms for indexing.
- Design and analyse experiments to validate improvements.
Required profile
- 4+ years of experience as a data analyst, ML engineer, or related role.
- Strong coding ability able to write production‑grade backend code.
- Experience designing metrics from scratch.
- Experience training ML models that shipped to production with measurable improvements.
