Senior Software Engineer – Identity Platform

About the role

Rivian's Identity Platform team builds the core authentication, authorization, and user‑lifecycle management systems that power every customer‑facing product, from mobile apps to vehicle software. As a Senior Software Engineer you will own backend services end‑to‑end, operate them in production, and help evolve a high‑scale, high‑availability platform serving millions of customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend microservices for authentication, token issuance, MFA, and session management.
• Develop and manage cloud infrastructure‑as‑code for databases, caches, queues, and event‑streaming services.
• Build event‑driven workflows that integrate the identity platform with partner systems.
• Own production health: write structured logs, define metrics, author runbooks, and participate in on‑call rotation.
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews, engineering standards, and mentorship of mid‑level engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Python, Go, Java, or Node.js.
• Experience with REST API design and service‑to‑service communication.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Infrastructure‑as‑code tooling (Terraform or Pulumi).
• Authentication and authorization concepts: OAuth2, OIDC, MFA, token management.
• Observability tools: structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing.
