Senior Graphics/JVM Software Engineer (JVM Runtime)

About the role

We’re now looking for a Senior Graphics/JVM Software Engineer with in‑depth knowledge of modern hardware‑accelerated APIs to join the JetBrains Runtime (JBR) team. JBR is the low‑level part of the IntelliJ Platform, the foundation for many JetBrains development tools, including IntelliJ IDEA.

Key responsibilities

• Provide low‑level support for UI frameworks such as Swing and Compose for Desktop to keep IDEs fast and visually polished.
• Develop new features (e.g., Java Chromium Embedded Framework), contribute to OpenJDK projects like Lanai and Wakefield, and fix JBR issues for upstreaming.

Required profile

• 4+ years of C or C++ programming experience.
• Solid knowledge of Java and JVM internals.
• Deep understanding of object‑oriented programming.
• Experience with multithreaded programming.
• Familiarity with system or UI development on Unix, Windows, or macOS (Cocoa, GNOME, Win32 API).
• In‑depth knowledge of modern hardware‑accelerated APIs such as Metal, Vulkan, OpenGL or Direct3D.
• Ability to optimise and refactor code independently.
• Strong teamwork and disciplined work approach.
