Java Backend Software Engineer – Cloud SaaS for EV Charging

About the role

EV Connect is seeking a Java Backend Software Engineer to help build and operate its cloud SaaS platform that powers electric‑vehicle charging networks. You will work on a real‑time distributed system that connects charging stations, handles billing, and keeps thousands of chargers online.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot within a large multi‑module Maven codebase.
• Write and extend unit and integration tests as an integral part of the development workflow.
• Integrate with networked charging stations and third‑party operators using open protocols such as OCPP.
• Diagnose and resolve production incidents by analysing logs, traces and forming hypotheses.
• Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback.
• Contribute to technical design discussions with leads and architects.
• Apply OWASP secure‑coding practices and perform security reviews.
• Make minor frontend adjustments (React, JavaScript/TypeScript) when features span the full stack.

Required profile

• At least 2 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent through internships, apprenticeships or substantial personal projects.
• Strong foundation in object‑oriented programming with Java.
• Experience building or consuming RESTful APIs and familiarity with HTTP and JSON.
• Hands‑on experience with automated testing and a solid Git pull‑request workflow.
• Comfortable working on Linux command line and navigating file systems.
• Knowledge of at least one database technology (MongoDB or relational SQL).
• Clear written communication skills for tickets, PR comments and design docs.
