Data Engineer (AI & LLM Applications)

About the role

Synechron, a global consulting firm, is hiring a Data Engineer in Novi Sad under a hybrid model, with the option to work from the Novi Sad or Belgrade office. The engineer designs and builds scalable data and AI applications using Python, FastAPI, Azure OpenAI and modern LLM frameworks, covering API development, RAG pipelines, semantic search, AI agents and cloud-based data services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Python-based data and AI applications, including REST APIs with FastAPI.
• Build and optimise LLM applications, RAG pipelines, semantic search and AI agents with LangChain and LangGraph.
• Integrate Azure OpenAI and OpenAI APIs, working with GPT-4 and GPT-5, embeddings, vector databases and Azure data services.
• Write efficient SQL and NoSQL queries and use Azure Blob Storage and Azure Databases.
• Evaluate, test, troubleshoot, deploy and monitor AI models and applications.
• Work with engineering and product teams on clean code, Git/GitHub workflows, CI/CD and technical documentation.

Required profile

• 5-8 years of professional experience in data engineering, software engineering or a related role.
• Valid work permit for Serbia (a prerequisite).

Required skills

• Strong Python, FastAPI and REST API development.
• Strong SQL and NoSQL query writing.
• Azure OpenAI, OpenAI APIs, Generative AI and GPT-4/GPT-5.
• LLM applications, RAG pipelines, AI agents, LangChain, LangGraph, vector databases, embeddings and semantic search.
• Azure Blob Storage, Azure Databases, Git and GitHub.
• AI model evaluation, testing, deployment, monitoring and observability.

Plus: Flask or Django, knowledge graphs, ontology and semantic layers, MLOps/LLMOps, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, AWS or GCP, and conversational AI or Copilot solutions.
