Indirect Tax Manager

About the role

British American Tobacco Serbia is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to lead VAT, customs and excise compliance for its operations in Vranje. You will ensure that all regulatory obligations are met while supporting business initiatives and new product launches.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of indirect tax compliance across VAT, customs and excise, including filings, payments, classifications and licensing.
• Establish and maintain processes, controls and policies to guarantee regulatory adherence.
• Monitor compliance performance, conduct post‑filing checks and ensure SOx‑aligned internal reporting, including product destruction and waste reporting.
• Support the Area Head of Customs & Excise Governance in audits, liaising with authorities and coordinating with the Corporate Tax team.
• Collaborate with customs brokers, logistics partners and internal stakeholders, providing guidance on legislative changes and delivering tax training.
• Manage indirect tax risks, drive continuous process improvements and promote knowledge sharing within a responsible, ethical environment.

Required profile

• Relevant degree and professional qualification in tax, accounting, economics or law.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in excise and customs, either in‑house or within a customs authority.
• Proven ability to work across teams, manage external partners and handle tax audits.
• Strong knowledge of VAT, customs and excise rules and practical application.
• Familiarity with financial systems such as SAP and understanding of supply‑chain or manufacturing environments.
• Analytical, organised and capable of meeting deadlines in an international, cross‑border setting.
