Release Engineer

About the role

JetBrains is looking for a Release Engineer to own and improve its massive CI/CD infrastructure that supports a 14 GB monorepo and hundreds of developers. You will ensure that releases are reliable, repeatable, and delivered smoothly from local development to production.

Key responsibilities

• Design, configure, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (TeamCity, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.).
• Manage branching strategies, coordinate code freezes, and handle hot‑fix releases.
• Diagnose pipeline failures and resolve build bottlenecks before they impact delivery.
• Automate repetitive release tasks and improve YouTrack/Jira workflows.
• Gather requirements from development teams and turn pain points into tooling improvements.
• Communicate process changes to stakeholders and lead retrospectives after incidents.

Required profile

• Curiosity and a systematic approach to solving complex infrastructure problems.
• Clear communication skills for collaborating with multiple engineering teams.
• Strong drive to automate manual tasks and reduce friction for developers.
• Comfort taking ownership of release decisions under deadline constraints.
• Pragmatic prioritisation of build stability, release speed, and developer experience.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
• Fluency in Kotlin or Java.
• Practical experience with Gradle or similar build systems.
• Familiarity with Linux environments and shell scripting.
• Proficiency with issue‑tracking tools like YouTrack or Jira.
