Staff Software Engineer - Distributed Data Systems

About the role

Databricks is building the world’s best data and AI infrastructure platform. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Distributed Data Systems team in Belgrade, you will help shape the core storage and query engines that power the Lakehouse vision, working across the full development lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Clarify requirements and drive design decisions for complex, ambiguous problems.
• Create technical design documents and detailed project plans.
• Develop and ship new features for the storage and query engines.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster best engineering practices.
• Test, roll out, and monitor production releases.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience with databases or distributed systems.
• 8+ years of production‑level software development experience in Java, Scala or C++.
• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real‑world applications.
• Experience building or operating distributed, big‑data systems such as Apache Spark or Hadoop.
• Ability to work toward a multi‑year vision while delivering incremental value.
