Civil Engineer – High Voltage Infrastructure

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join its award‑winning High Voltage (HV) Civil and Structural team. The position is office‑based and can be located in Genova (Italy), Madrid (Spain) or Belgrade (Serbia). You will work on a diverse portfolio of HV Substation, HVDC Converter Station, Overhead Line and Cable projects, supporting the global energy transition.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and prepare detailed civil drawings, cross‑sections and 3D models for planning and tender packages.
• Coordinate civil design activities with multidisciplinary teams and ensure alignment with project specifications.
• Assess existing structures for condition and structural suitability, recommending reuse or refurbishment.
• Produce and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and reports to guarantee design quality.
• Engage regularly with clients and stakeholders, providing progress updates and flagging issues that may affect schedule, cost or quality.
• Contribute to proposal writing and support project management across multi‑disciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Proven experience in HV civil and structural projects, including substations, HVDC converter stations, overhead lines or cable systems.
• Strong understanding of FEED processes, design coordination and structural assessment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal teams.
