Head of ML

About the role

JetBrains is building an AI‑native platform that integrates machine learning across its developer tools. As Head of ML you will steer the vision, strategy and execution of high‑impact AI initiatives that shape the future of software development.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, prioritize and champion AI projects that align with product strategy and deliver measurable business value.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of roughly 50 professionals, including ML engineers, MLOps specialists and team leads, overseeing hiring, development and performance.
• Define the technical direction of JetBrains’ ML roadmap, translating cutting‑edge research into practical product innovations.
• Set and enforce technical standards, architectural guidelines and best practices for ML development and deployment.
• Ensure projects meet commitments, provide clear business cases and generate quantifiable outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven ability to balance long‑term R&D with short‑term product delivery.
• Track record of shipping production‑grade ML systems that are actively used by customers.
• Experience building compelling business cases for technical initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and comfort working with senior leadership.
• Thrives in a fast‑paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and people‑management capabilities.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of modern ML infrastructure, large language models (LLMs) and AI tooling.
• Experience with distributed training of multi‑billion‑parameter models.
• Proficiency in CI systems, workflow automation and experiment tracking.
• Familiarity with the Kotlin programming language.
• Hands‑on expertise in MLOps and scalable ML pipelines.
