Senior Applied AI Engineer

About the role

Databricks is looking for a Senior Applied AI Engineer to advance the usability and efficiency of its AutoML and other user‑facing products. You will work on a range of problems from classical classification to deep and foundational models, helping customers extract maximum value from their data.

Key responsibilities

• Build features and run end‑to‑end ML systems within a small, experienced team.
• Shape the direction of applied ML investments by collaborating with engineering and product groups.
• Develop and deploy state‑of‑the‑art ML/AI models that directly improve Databricks’ products, infrastructure, and services.
• Architect and implement scalable ML infrastructure, including model training and serving pipelines.
• Explore novel modeling techniques for forecasting and recommendation tasks.
• Contribute to the broader AI community through conference presentations and open‑source participation.

Required profile

• 2‑8 years of machine‑learning engineering experience in fast‑moving, high‑growth environments.
• Strong understanding of computer systems and statistical methods.
• Proven experience building AI/ML systems at production scale.
• Track record of creating ML models that go beyond standard library usage.
• Solid software‑engineering skills, including testing, code reviews, and deployment practices.
• Broad knowledge of, or willingness to develop, advanced mathematical modeling beyond typical ML.
