Staff Software Developer – IntelliJ Platform

About the role

JetBrains is looking for a Staff Software Developer to shape the future of the IntelliJ Platform, the foundation of its popular IDEs. You will work on core architecture, plugin ecosystems, and large‑scale refactoring to keep the platform modern and highly productive for millions of developers.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the internal and external plugin development ecosystem, defining minimal APIs and producing clear documentation.
• Re‑architect core subsystems to make settings flexible and portable across machines, supporting remote and dev‑provisioned environments.
• Organise and implement the deprecation cycle for IntelliJ Platform APIs.
• Lead large‑scale refactoring efforts across the monorepo, ensuring stability and performance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in platform architecture and systems design.
• Strong understanding of JVM concurrency and Kotlin coroutines.
• Excellent technical writing and documentation abilities.
• Critical thinking, architectural foresight, and the capacity to manage large‑scale refactoring projects.
