Team Leader – Freight Forwarding (Road Transport)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to manage a group of freight forwarders (dispatchers) who organise full‑truck‑load (FTL) shipments across European routes. The role combines hands‑on handling of a personal client portfolio with responsibility for team performance, training and process optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a team of dispatchers handling high‑volume shipments on routes such as Germany↔France, Italy↔Germany/Austria/France, Spain→Slovakia and other European destinations.
• Track monthly team results (revenue, margin, shipments) and propose actions to improve performance.
• Set and monitor individual and team targets, providing regular feedback.
• Onboard and train new dispatchers in carrier negotiation, client handling, freight exchanges and internal procedures.
• Resolve escalated operational issues, including delays, cancellations and urgent carrier replacements.
• Maintain relationships with key clients (e.g., Dachser, Kühne+Nagel, Heppner).
• Use freight exchanges (Timocom, Teleroute) and monitor market conditions to stay competitive.
• Maintain accurate records in Excel for rates, margins, invoices and CMR documentation.

Required profile

• Minimum 3–4 years of experience in freight forwarding or road transport organisation (FTL), including time in a senior or lead role.
• Fluent business English, both spoken and written.
• Strong knowledge of the European transport market and basic documentation (CMR, transport orders).
• Proven negotiation skills and a commercial mindset.
• Experience leading or mentoring people, formally or informally.
• Resilience under pressure, analytical mindset and precision with numbers and documentation.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel for tracking and analysis.
• Use of freight exchanges such as Timocom and Teleroute.
