Data Scientist (Computer Vision) – Document Analysis

About the role

Daon, a global leader in digital identity fraud prevention, is hiring a Data Scientist (Computer Vision) in Belgrade. Candidates must be resident in Serbia at the time of application. The position is a fixed-term contract of 12 months, hybrid with two days in the office and three days remote.

Key responsibilities

• Apply machine learning, deep learning and computer vision to identity document analysis, authentication and fraud detection.
• Design and implement document-based algorithms for digital onboarding and identity authentication.
• Create solutions that authenticate identity documents, detect tampered documents and prevent document fraud.
• Develop document processing algorithms using foundation models or traditional machine learning, image processing and computer vision, depending on deployment constraints.
• Prototype proof-of-concepts and turn them into production-ready solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering, product and support teams to deploy algorithms and manage long-term improvements.
• Develop algorithm components for cloud, server and mobile environments, and test, evaluate and configure solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, a mathematics-related field or equivalent.
• Resident of Serbia at the time of application.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an international team.

Required skills

• Experience developing and evaluating machine learning and computer vision algorithms.
• Strong background in traditional machine learning and computer vision; experience with document processing is a bonus.
• Proficiency with modern deep learning frameworks and foundation models.
• Experience in low-resource domains, transfer learning or unsupervised/lightly supervised learning.
• Strong Python; C++ is a plus.
• Working knowledge of image processing libraries and toolkits.
• AI-driven development tools, data curation, annotation and synthetic training data generation.
