About the role
ICON is seeking a Lead, Clinical Trial Liaison to provide scientific and operational support to investigator sites while leading and developing Clinical Trial Liaison teams. This role blends hands‑on study support with people leadership to deliver high‑quality clinical trials and effective site engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Lead CTL activities on multi‑CTL studies, coordinating workstreams and ensuring delivery to quality and timeline expectations.
- Manage, mentor, train and coach CTL team members, supporting their career development.
- Communicate complex scientific and protocol information clearly to project teams, investigators and site staff.
- Create educational materials that convey trial science and support consistent site understanding.
- Build trusted relationships with investigators and site personnel to facilitate effective study conduct.
- Identify and address scientific and operational barriers affecting recruitment, retention and data quality.
- Provide detailed, timely reports of site interactions with insights for project teams.
- Contribute to tools, materials and strategies that support site engagement and performance.
Required profile
- Doctoral‑level qualification (PhD, MD or PharmD) in a relevant scientific, medical, pharmacy or healthcare discipline.
- Substantial experience in clinical research, medical affairs or field‑based roles involving direct interaction with investigators and trial sites.
- Strong understanding of clinical trial design, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and site operations.
- Proven relationship‑building skills and credibility with clinicians, investigators and site teams.
- Demonstrated leadership and people‑management capability, including coaching and mentoring.

- Ability to interpret complex medical and scientific information and explain protocol concepts clearly.
- Excellent communication, presentation, influencing and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a matrixed, global environment.
