Java Backend Software Engineer

About the role

EV Connect is looking for a Java Backend Software Engineer to join its Belgrade team building a cloud SaaS platform that powers electric‑vehicle charging networks. You will work on a real‑time distributed system that connects charging stations, handles billing, and keeps thousands of chargers online.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot within a large multi‑module Maven monorepo.
• Write and extend unit and integration tests (Spock, Groovy, TestContainers) as a standard part of development.
• Integrate with networked charging stations and third‑party operators using open protocols such as OCPP.
• Debug production incidents by reading logs, tracing calls, forming hypotheses, and applying fixes.
• Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback.
• Contribute to technical design discussions with leads and architects.
• Write secure code following OWASP best practices.
• Make small frontend improvements when features span the stack (React, JavaScript/TypeScript).

Required profile

• At least 2 years of professional software development experience or equivalent through internships or personal projects.
• Strong fundamentals in an object‑oriented language, specifically Java.
• Experience building or consuming RESTful APIs and familiarity with HTTP and JSON.
• Basic experience with automated testing and a clear understanding of its importance.
• Proficiency with Git and a typical pull‑request workflow.
• Comfortable using the Linux command line for navigation, log tailing, and builds.
• Knowledge of at least one database (MongoDB or relational) and ability to write clear documentation.
