Senior Software Engineer - Core Experience (Backend)

About the role

Fivetran and dbt Labs are building data pipelines for the modern data stack and are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join its Core Experience global group. You will work on core developer-facing capabilities such as Public APIs, the Terraform Provider and Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, helping customers and partners automate, manage and integrate with Fivetran at scale. The position is full-time, based in the Novi Sad office, with a hybrid model combining remote flexibility and in-person collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and APIs for the Developer Experience platform.
• Build and enhance Public APIs, the Terraform Provider and MCP integrations so customers can manage and automate their infrastructure.
• Design reliable, scalable and maintainable solutions focused on API consistency, backward compatibility, security and performance.
• Own features from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment and production support.
• Work with product managers and engineers to turn product requirements into technical solutions.
• Contribute to architecture discussions, design reviews and code reviews.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability.
• Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, testing and code review, and improve developer workflows and internal tooling.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong backend skills, preferably in Java or Go.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms and design patterns.
• Experience with production-grade REST APIs and distributed systems running at scale under strict availability and performance requirements.
• Ability to write clean, testable code and to balance short-term delivery with long-term architecture.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding tools and the ability to own complex engineering tasks independently.
