Senior Software Engineer - Distributed Data Systems

About the role
As a founding member of Databricks’ Belgrade site, you will help shape the company’s multi‑year Lakehouse vision. The role spans the full development cycle, from design to production, and embodies Databricks’ core values of ownership, data‑driven decision making, teamwork, and customer obsession.
Key responsibilities
- Clarify requirements and make design decisions for ambiguous problems.
- Produce technical design documents and detailed project plans.
- Develop new features for the storage and query engines.
- Mentor junior engineers and guide best practices.
- Test, roll out, and monitor releases in production.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience with databases or distributed systems.
- 5+ years of production‑level experience in Java, Scala, or C++.
- Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures.
- Experience building or operating distributed, big‑data systems such as Apache Spark or Hadoop.
- Motivation to deliver customer value and work toward a long‑term vision.
