Vice President, Applied AI & Data Science

About the role

BlackRock's Investment & Trading Compliance engineering team is looking for a Vice President, Applied AI & Data Science to define and deliver the next generation of AI-powered compliance capabilities across the Aladdin platform. The role combines machine learning, generative AI, information retrieval and software product development to turn compliance workflows into intelligent, automated solutions. It works closely with product managers, engineers, compliance specialists, AI researchers and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and deployment of advanced AI solutions for compliance and regulatory challenges, and shape the long-term AI strategy and roadmap.
• Build solutions using large language models, agentic frameworks, retrieval systems and enterprise knowledge platforms, including semantic search, intelligent document retrieval and workflow orchestration.
• Partner with engineering teams to deliver scalable, production-grade AI services and apply modern product engineering practices across the software lifecycle.
• Evaluate emerging AI trends, set up experimentation frameworks and collaborate with internal AI research teams.
• Define evaluation methodologies, success metrics and monitoring frameworks, and ensure responsible AI, transparency, security and reliability.
• Partner with engineering, product, legal, compliance and AI platform teams, communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, and influence senior stakeholders.
• Mentor data scientists, machine learning engineers and software engineers and promote best practices in experimentation, evaluation and AI engineering.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline.
• Significant experience developing and deploying machine learning or AI solutions in production, and applying data science and AI to complex business problems.
• Experience partnering with software engineering teams to operationalize AI at enterprise scale, and applying modern product engineering practices.
• Ability to articulate architectural trade-offs and influence technical strategy across organizations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Required skills

• Strong Python programming and familiarity with modern software development environments.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled SDLC and PDLC practices, including specification-driven development, AI-assisted development, testing, code review and documentation.
• Preferred: LLMs, generative and agentic AI, semantic search, retrieval and knowledge discovery platforms, embeddings and vector search, AI evaluation frameworks, AI governance and model risk management.
• Preferred: experience in financial services, regulatory or compliance technology, or enterprise SaaS, and cloud-native AI architectures.
